At our Nottingham architects practice we have debated and speculated on the potential 2023 Sterling prize winner since the shortlist was published, this year’s shortlisted buildings were varied and exciting. Yesterday it was announced that the John Morden Centre by MAE won the award, we agree with the judge’s decision. This project has social value, beauty and is serving its community.
Founded in 1695, Morden College is a charity dedicated to providing older people in need with a home for life. The residents live on the Grade I-listed college site in Blackheath, which is attributed to English architect Sir Christopher Wren. The John Morden Centre is a daycare centre housing social and medical facilities for all residents. A very worthy winner.
